Amboseli National Park, located in southern Kenya near the Tanzania border, is world-famous for its vast elephant herds and views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Here, the landscape is a striking blend of dry savannah, green swamps, and acacia woodlands, creating an ideal environment for wildlife to thrive year-round.
The park is one of the best places in Africa to observe elephants up close, often seen roaming in large numbers through the open plains.
Four of the Big Five—elephant, lion, buffalo, and leopard—can be spotted here, along with cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and countless bird species.
Amboseli’s seasonal wetlands attract waterbirds, making it a key birding destination. Visitors can also engage with the local Maasai community, adding a cultural dimension to the safari. With its dramatic scenery and diverse wildlife, Amboseli offers a truly classic safari experience.
Enjoy exceptional highlights capturing Amboseli’s open plains, elephant herds, and the inspiring views that define this legendary park’s timeless appeal.
Explore Amboseli through wildlife drives, cultural tours, guided walks, and scenic flights, each activity revealing a different side of this iconic park.
The best time to visit Amboseli is June to October or January to February, when dry conditions improve wildlife viewing and accessibility.
June to October marks the dry season, bringing cooler mornings and sunny skies. With almost no rainfall, it’s the perfect time for game drives. Elephants and other wildlife gather near swamps and waterholes, making them easier to spot. Daytime temperatures average around 26°C–27°C (79°F–81°F), while mornings stay crisp.
November to December brings the short rains, mostly in the afternoons. The park is greener and ideal for photography, with temperatures around 28°C (82°F). The rain is brief and rarely disrupts plans.
January to February is a drier interval between the two rainy periods. It’s hotter—up to 30°C (86°F)—but still suitable for safaris.
March to May sees the long rains, peaking in April. While the landscape flourishes, some roads can become muddy and difficult to navigate. However, fewer tourists mean quieter safaris and better accommodation deals.
Amboseli National Park offers a range of stays, from luxury lodges with Kilimanjaro views to eco-camps near swamps, ensuring comfort, scenery, and wildlife proximity for every kind of traveller.
