Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary Wildlife

Largest black rhino
sanctuary in East Africa.

Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary sits on the Laikipia Plateau, north of Mount Kenya. Spanning 90,000 acres, this private conservancy is a powerful example of how tourism supports conservation. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can see the Big Five, rescued chimpanzees, and endangered northern white rhinos in a single day.

Ol Pejeta’s diverse habitats include grasslands, riverine forests, and swamps, home to over 130 black rhinos, 40 white rhinos, thriving lion populations, and over 300 bird species. Beyond game drives, Ol Pejeta offers hands-on conservation activities like lion tracking and behind-the-scenes research experiences.

It’s also home to Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, Kenya’s only place to see rescued chimpanzees. With strong predator populations, easy access from Nairobi, and fewer crowds, Ol Pejeta is ideal for travelers seeking meaningful, wildlife-rich safaris in a responsibly managed setting.
